The Cathance River’s Head of Tide has been uniquely valuable to the communities living around it since the earliest indigenous peoples inhabited the region. The site was home to Topsham’s first sawmill, and later a feldspar mill. Today, through a partnership between the Land Trust and Town of Topsham, it is the Town’s first waterfront park, offering hand carry boat access to the river, the launching point for six miles of trail, picnicking facilities, and a place to observe spawning fish, eagles, osprey, and a host of other wildlife in addition to a beautiful waterfall.
Join the Land Trust for an afternoon exploring the Park’s fascinating history. Ed Mendes and Dana Cary will discuss the mills, original inhabitants, and site characteristics. If you enjoy local history, or just love this park, you won’t want to miss this event!
The event will be held rain or shine. There is a covered pavilion where some of the presentation will take place, but please dress appropriately for some exploration in the woods around the park.
This event is free and open to all.
