The Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber of Commerce is inviting public officials and members of the business community to the grand opening of the new Topsham Bureau of Motor Vehicles office.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 8 at 9 a.m. at the branch office, located at 125B Main Street. BMV Senior Section Manager Lucy Taylor and Topsham Branch Manager Wayne Russell will be in attendance.

 “This is a great move for us,” said Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap. “It will improve access to the services we offer for the public, and is not too far removed from where we’ve been for years.”

“Our priority is always to provide safe, convenient access for Maine motorists to our branch locations. This new location will provide greater comfort for the public and our staff, and enhance our ability to provide excellent service.”

The office opened to the public at its new location on Monday, March 2. The building is owned by landlord Terry Gray. The Topsham BMV office was previously located at 49 Topsham Fair Mall Road, since 1988. The branch phone number remains 725-6520.

The move is being made to provide for added visibility, and is in an area with less traffic congestion. The Main Street location will allow for easier access, as well as designated parking for the public. The new branch also has updated systems and is more energy efficient.
