Tastefully Maine: "Midsummer Food & Spirits at the Gardens" 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, , Boothbay, Maine

The folks at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens really know how to throw a party, and they’re pulling out all the stops for the multi-featured event, “Tastefully Maine: Midsummer Food and Spirits at the Gardens,” on Thursday, July 21. The list of food and drink from Maine’s finest restaurants, caterers, and artisanal producers tantalizes the taste buds; and the surroundings will be spectacular. Everyone who attends will be the first to experience, and shop at, “Midsummer Market: A Gathering of Sustainable Choices,” which will continue through the weekend.

The Edith Jones Project, a popular all-female big band, will play on the centrally located Great Lawn so everyone can enjoy the music wherever they’re tasting and browsing. Guests will enter through the new Bosarge Family Education Center, where one of several groups of featured caterers will offer beautifully presented food and beverages; they’ll then wind their way to the Woodland Garden, passing the other tables on their way to “Midsummer Market.”

The list of featured caterers for “Tastefully Maine” reads like a who’s who of Maine hospitality, and some on the list will have their products for sale, as well. Participants, to date, are 1828 Vintage House Wine & Cheese, Allagash Brewing Co, Azure Café, Belle Fete Events & Catering, Black Dinah Chocolatiers, Blue Elephant Events & Catering, Boathouse Bistro, Cabot Creamery, Cellardoor Winery, Cinque Terre & Vignola, ’Cue Culture, DennyMike's Sauces & Rubs, Fiddler's Reach LLC, Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, Gelato Fiasco, Glidden Point Oyster Sea Farm, Green Bee Soda, Heirloom Tomato Sauce Co., Howard House Lodge B&B, Linekin Bay Resort, Maine Mead Works, Maine's Own Organic Milk, McSeagull’s, Northern Maine Distilling Co., Northwoods Gourmet Girl, Ocean Approved, Ports of Italy, Savage Oakes Vineyard & Winery, Shalom Orchard, Spruce Point Inn, Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery, The Thistle Inn, TREATS, Whole Foods Portland, Wilbur's of Maine Chocolate Confections, and Winterport Winery.

In its continuing efforts to decrease the Gardens’ carbon footprint and impact on the environment, all waste from “Tastefully Maine,” including the service wares, will be composted.

Tickets for “Tastefully Maine” are $75 per person, and all proceeds benefit Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Because this is an event for guests 21 and over, ticket holders may be asked to show an ID. For more information or for reservations, which are required, call 207-633-4333, visit www.MaineGardens.org, or stop by the Visitor Center at the Gardens, located off Barters Island Road in Boothbay.

The weekend-long “Midsummer Market: A Gathering of Sustainable Choices,” celebrates all things “green.” The list of vendors at this new signature event is impressive, and their wares are exceptional – from fine jewelry, furnishings, clothing, and housewares to energy systems, seeds and plants, soaps, and alpaca products. A number of non-profits will have exhibits providing ideas for greener living. The Midsummer Market continues from 9-5 daily, Friday through Sunday, July 22-24. Entry is free with Gardens admission.

Sponsors for the events are Knickerbocker Group, Maine magazine, and Whole Foods Market.
