Small Business Success Seminar: Be Chip Card Ready 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Rd. , Topsham, Maine

Be Chip Card Ready for your business- A presentation about the new chip cards coming to consumers and what it means for your business.

Beginning October 1, 2015, all businesses that accept in-person payments must be able to take cards embedded with chips, or risk being responsible for card fraud losses. Chip cards are more secure than magnetic stripe cards, which data thieves can easily skim for cardholder information.

This is different from the way things are today, when the bank or association that provides the cards bears the responsibility for card present fraud losses. It will continue to be their responsibility after Oct. 1 if you have equipment that enables you to take chip cards. So as the year goes by, banks and card associations will send your customers new chip cards, and they will want to use them to take advantage of the security that chip cards offer.

As the Oct. 1 deadline nears, it makes good business sense to invest in a terminal that accepts chip cards. So whether you need to process a chip or magnetic stripe card, or take contactless payments such as Apple PayTM, these terminals are a great way to help you to securely accept payments.

Our presenter is Christopher Abbott, Regional Account Executive | Elavon | Community Bank Channel. The Bank of Maine partners with Elavon to provide their customers with Merchants Services. (Camden National is also a partner).
