Maine Coast Heritage Trust will run free boat shuttles to The Goslings islands in upper Casco Bay on Thursday, August 11. We’ll be grilling hot dogs on the beach to complete the perfect island getaway and laidback vibe of an afternoon on The Goslings.

Shuttles will depart from the Mere Point Public Boat Launch, Mere Point Road, Brunswick between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors will have approximately and hour and a half to explore the islands.(The last shuttle will return from the islands at 2:00 pm.)

The shuttles are open skiffs which can accommodate 5-6 people at a time. The ride to the Goslings is approximately 15 minutes. We will provide mandatory life vests or bring your own if you have one.

This trip is appropriate (and encouraged!) for children.

Participants must be agile enough to step off the dock into a small boat and climb out onto the beach at the island. At The Goslings, be prepared to get your feet wet as we bump up on the beach to disembark.
If you have your own boat, meet us there. Pre-registration is not necessary, but recommended so we know how many people to expect. If the event is cancelled due to weather, we will contact you.

East Gosling (8.6 acres), West Gosling (4.1 acres), and tiny Irony Island ring one of the sandiest, most protected anchorages in upper Casco Bay. Connected to each other by a sand bar at low tide, small beaches on the two Goslings offer a perfect place to soak up the sun or search for treasures carried in on the tide. Explore the shady island interiors or climb around the perimeter of the islands and bring your binoculars to spy on the seal colony on the nearby rock ledges.

In 2014, thanks to the support of a large number of local residents, Maine Coast Heritage Trust was able to raise close to $1 million in a few short months to purchase the Goslings and preserve public access forever to this very special spot on the Maine Coast.
