The c. 1850 hand-colored photograph of Mary Ellen Whitten in an elaborate gilded frame hung for nearly 150 years in the Topsham Public Library's former home, the Whitten house. It remains in the Library today to honor the generous bequest of Mary Ellen's sister, Sarah, in 1941 of the former Whitten residence to house a town library. We invite you to an official "unveiling" of the restored portrait and frame. Immediately following, historian Scott T. Hanson, will give a presentation of his most recent findings on the Whitten family's history in Topsham, from 1764 to 1941.
