Business on the Ballot: Understanding the Business Impact of Maine's Referendum Questions 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Topsham Public Library , Topsham

Join Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber’s Executive Director Cory King on October 19th, for a timely
discussion and information session about the referendum questions on the Maine ballot this November.

This event, called Business on the Ballot: Understanding the Business Impact of Maine’s
Referendum Questions, is part of the chamber’s monthly ongoing lunch & learn series held at the
Topsham Public Library, traditionally known as the Small Business Success Seminars.

Business on the Ballot will begin promptly at 11:30 and will be over by 1:00pm, though Cory will be on hand at 11:00am for those who want to come a little early and network prior to the program beginning.
Attendees are encouraged to register at the SMMC website, under the event calendar to reserve a spot.
There is no cost to attend and attendees are welcome to bring their own brown bag lunch, if they wish,
as no lunch will be provided.

In this program, King will go through each of the five citizen initiative questions and
the one bond issue on the 2016 Maine ballot.  You will learn:

1. How each question will be presented on the ballot
2. A history of the issue as to why the question has been brought forward
3. A summarization exploring the stances of the “Yes” and “No” campaigns
4. The position of the Southern Midcoast Chamber on the issue
5. The potential impacts to the business community

King has attended several forums on the various issues, has heard each proponent and opponent of the issues put forward their respective stances and has done a comprehensive analysis of the issues
in an attempt to boil each question down to specifically what the attendees needs to know.

Finally, there has been a request for openness from each attendee.
The format will allow for open discussion, and with that,
an acceptance of a differing view in a respectful way is necessary.
This event is intended to inform attendees about the issues through the prism
of what the outcome will be for the business community- which the Chamber represents.
A civil discussion is the only way it can be effective for all.

With that, differing opinions are important so we can all see the different sides of the issues.
The goal is that nobody walks away ‘being right’ or ‘being wrong’ from this session, they simply walk away with a firmer grasp of what the opinions on the issues are.  From there, as always, you decide.
