Understanding the Department of Labor Overtime Rule

Many have heard, but for those that have not, there is a new Department of Labor law scheduled to go into effect on December 1^st that raises the threshold for paying salaried employees overtime.  The old threshold was for employees who made around $25K or less.  The new threshold will jump to $47K or less.  Meaning, if you have an employee who is salaried, making under $47K you need to start paying them overtime after December 1.  This will have a giant impact on non-profits and certain industries in particular.   However there are exemptions for certain types of employees.  Does your employee help with hiring and firing?  They might be exempt.  What are their essential functions?  How do you comply?
