Greater Freeport Community Chorus invites you to their Spring concerts “Simple Gifts: American Musical Innovation” to be held on Saturday May 5th, 7:30 pm at First Parish Church, 40 Main St. in Freeport and on Sunday May 6th, 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth. The program features the music of American composers Aaron Copland, Stephen Foster, Charles Ives, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and others who drew inspiration from rural tunes and landscapes. “Simple Gifts”, “O, Susannah!”, “All The Things You Are” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” are performed with dynamic arrangements. In addition to the moving Civil War tune, “Tenting Tonight”, the classic song, “Over the Rainbow”, will surely warm the hearts of all. The most intriguing piece on the program is “And The Trees Stood Like Beautiful Buildings”, Nick Page’s “edifice in sound” honoring the famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. It features ethereal and minimalist choral textures accompanied by piano, tuned crystal glasses, wooden blocks and steel cello. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for students and seniors. Children under 12 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the Freeport Community Center Thrift Shop and Music & Moore, Topsham or at the door.
