The Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its 102nd  Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 23, 2011 to recognize and honor Red Cross heroes.  This special event will be held at the Mid Coast Chapter house at16 Community Way in Topsham and will feature a short program to highlight the accomplishments of the Mid Coast Chapter during the past year and to elect our new Board of Directors.  The evening’s capstone will be an award ceremony to show our appreciation of the time, talent, leadership and inspiration provided by our volunteers and members of the community who help us to deliver the mission of the American Red Cross.

The Mid Coast Chapter will recognize and thank the Brunswick Fire Department and Chief Kenneth Brillant for the courage and heroism they displayed when battling three apartment building fires that left 58 people homeless this Spring.

The Red Cross will honor Zoë Marie Waltz, an eight year-old from Waldoboro, who heroically saved the life of her brother John in January at aJeffersonswimming pool.  In addition, we will honor Mark Perkins, of theBowdoinCollegesecurity department, who just weeks ago saved the life of a Harpswell resident, with his use of CPR and a nearbyAED.

The Mid Coast Chapter will also recognize Jackson Cyr with the Youth Philanthropy Award.  Jackson, a 10 year-old from Brunswick, greatly inspired Red Cross volunteers and Board Members when he gave generously to the Mid Coast Chapter’s local disaster relief fund by emptying his own piggy bank to help local  fire victims.
