Thomas Jefferson loved women. He maintained relationships with a number of very different women throughout his life, from his wife Martha until her early death, to friends like Abigail Adams and Maria Cosway, to his daughters Martha (called Patsy), Mary and Lucy, often primarily through letters. Dr. Gerard Gawalt, retired Curator of Presidential Papers and Early American History Specialist at the Library of Congress will discuss his latest book about Jefferson's correspondence with these women. Come hear what that correspondence does and does not reveal about the man who is possibly our most enigmatic and contradictory founding father. $5 Historic New England members, $10 nonmembers.
