Small Business Success Seminar-Community Energy: What is it? And is it right for you, your home, and your town? 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Rd. , Topsham

Community Energy: What is it?  And is it right for you, your home, and your town?

Heating and electric bills got you down?  Natural gas prices and electric prices are at all-time high levels this winter, and predicted to remain high, and increase in the near future.  Individuals and businesses alike have few cost-effective options for staying warm and keeping the lights on.

Throughout the country, people are taking energy into their own hands and working alone or together to install their own renewable energy systems.  Why is this good?  They’re cost-effective, reliable, and offset dirty power and energy sources.  In addition to learning about home installations, we’ll learn about net energy billing and ways in which renewable energy projects can be co-owned, thereby increasing the paybacks and reducing the risks.

Sue Jones, is an attorney, advocate and leader on community energy (locally-owned energy).  Sue will cover community energy, what it is, why it’s a new paradigm for energy generation, and some of the economic, environmental, and societal benefits that it offers.  You will leave understanding which renewable energy sources might be a good fit for your home energy needs, and examples of how you can be a local energy leader by exploring the many options for community ownership of renewable energy in your local town.  Case examples will be presented and explored.
