Spewing out of the "East meets West" whirlwind that is Shanghai, The Song Dynasty arrive in the US in July for their summer tour. Formed in 2009, the band has quickly become a fixture on the Shanghai music scene, playing their mysterious blend of dub, jazz, hip-hop and folk to energized expat and local audiences. The band was formed under the premise of creating intelligent music that grooves hard. The sound merges the accessibility of indie song-writing with the pulsing charm of reggae, all underpinned by funk and electronic-inspired odd-time beats. Expect lyrics intertwining English and Mandarin Chinese, flowing melodies, pounding loops and quirky improvisational passages.

The Song Dynasty will also be promoting their recently released debut record, "All That's Keeping You Here," which was produced in collaboration with many guest artists from the Shanghai scene. The band are keen contributors to and supporters of local music in China, a country whose economic explosion will inevitably be followed by a cultural blossoming. Each song is a story born out of their experience as foreigners immersed in this rapidly changing cultural landscape.
