Gardens Aglow 2020: The Show Will Go On in a Whole New Light

For Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, the show will indeed go on this year. Recently, the Gardens announced that, after careful planning, research, communication with state and town officials, and in conjunction with COVID-19 safety protocols, Gardens Aglow will light up the peninsula for the sixth year in a row—with one important change: what has been a walking tour in previous years will become a driving experience in 2020.

“We wanted to find a safe way of continuing and honoring what’s become an annual tradition for so many families,” says Gardens’ President and CEO, Gretchen Ostherr. “Our committee has worked hard to map out the safest, most accessible route, taking traffic and congestion very much into consideration.”

To ensure that traffic will flow smoothly, both on the peninsula and along the Gardens Aglow route, CMBG made the decision to establish limited entries per 15-minute intervals. “We worked with the town of Boothbay, and this system will help us avoid backups onto the road,” says Ostherr.

Tickets are sold by the car, not by the individual, and are only available in advance for a specific time slot.

Bicycle Access Expanded on Amtrak Downeaster Trains

Customers can now bring their bikes to/ from any station

Portland, ME – The Amtrak Downeaster has expanded its carry-on bike program and is now accepting bicycles from all Downeaster stations in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Newly installed luggage racks that convert to bike racks make it possible to roll bikes on board from any Downeaster station, then secure and store them on the train.  Previously, bikes had to be stored in a special car, restricting access to only a few stations.  Now, standard full-size bicycles may be carried on at any Downeaster station and stored in the designated racks, as long as the front wheel is removed.  Bicycle space is limited to four per train, and a specific bike reservation is required in advance of travel. A nominal bicycle fee applies.

Brunswick, Maine – Mid Coast Hospital’s 27th Annual Golf Fore! Health Classic on September 9 was a great success, raising more than $42,000 to support Mid Coast Hospital’s Center for Community Health & Wellness.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, certain changes were made to this year’s festivities to maximize the health and safety of attendees and staff. Still, many golfers participated in this year’s tournament at the Brunswick Golf Club, bringing the total number of teams to 20, with 80 total players who golfed at staggered tee times.

“Each year, I am amazed at the incredible generosity and support displayed at our annual golf tournament, but the success of this year’s event in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic is truly incredible,” said Randee Reynolds, Vice President for Community Health at Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “We are so appreciative for the hard work of our dedicated staff members and volunteers, which allowed the tournament to be executed safely this year, and for the ongoing loyalty of our local business sponsors, community members, and Mid Coast–Parkview Health board members, even in these unprecedented times.”

Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic Extends Hours, Offers Virtual Appointments

September 3, 2020

The Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic has expanded its hours and is now open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. Opening the clinic an hour earlier will allow patients to schedule early morning visits before work and school, as well as be seen by a provider after traditional business hours.

“As we plan for the return to school, we know that many families will have questions about symptoms of COVID-19,” said Tari Advani, MD, Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic Medical Director. “Expanding hours at the Walk-In Clinic will assist patients and families by providing extra time to meet with a provider to assess any health concerns or questions. Our providers can recommend the best course of treatment and refer to testing as needed.”

Located in downtown Brunswick, the Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic offers a more affordable alternative to an emergency room visit or appointment at a private urgent care facility. The clinic is perfect for when a patient cannot get an appointment to see their physician or does not have a primary care provider. Patients can get expert and urgent care for minor medical problems such as cuts, sprains, coughs and infections, as well as onsite diagnostic services, including X-rays. The Walk-In Clinic is also co-located with a laboratory service center and integrated with all Mid Coast Medical Group practices, allowing for unified record keeping for patients.
