Harpswell Coastal Academy Starts Trimester 3 Online After Three Days of Planning and Preparation

Brunswick, Maine – Harpswell Coastal Academy (HCA) kicked off Trimester 3 course online this past Thursday after three quick days of students and staff acclimating to online learning.  Last Monday, teachers and other staff members met to plan the transition not only of instruction, but also of food services, special education delivery and social services.  On Tuesday, crews (home rooms) started their first daily 9:00 a.m. online meetings. By last Thursday, all were ready for the start of online classes for the new trimester.

United Way of Mid Coast Maine announced Monday that it has created a special Fund to help initiatives and agencies meet the increased needs of local people during the COVID-19 pandemic.


New Flexibility with Unemployment Insurance from MDOL

These temporary measures will help relieve the financial burden of temporary layoffs, isolation, and medically-necessary quarantine by making unemployment benefits available to individuals whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19.

“If workers do not have access to employer-provided paid time off or leave, this legislation can provide an important partial wage replacement,” Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said. “This helps not only the individual but allows employers to retain their workforce and stabilize local economies.”

In physical therapy, we evaluate breathing to identify dysfunctional breathing patterns as well as muscle imbalances (e.g., tight or weak muscles) that may lead to pain and injury.


Mid Coast¬–Parkview Health, MaineHealth Merger Gets Final Go Ahead

Brunswick and Portland, Maine – Representatives from Mid Coast–Parkview Health and MaineHealth received final clearance yesterday to move forward with the planned merger of the two healthcare organizations. Mid Coast–Parkview Health will join MaineHealth as a member on March 1, 2020 and will work toward full integration over the next several months as operations become unified.

The Brunswick Rotary Club is now accepting applications for “Midcoast Maine’s Got Talent 2020!” The ninth edition of this fun and well-attended local talent show will be held on May 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Crooker Theatre in Brunswick.  Deadline for applications is April 24, however, since the event is capped at twenty participating acts, interested parties are encouraged to apply immediately. 


Jones Named Senior Director of Development for Mid Coast–Parkview Health

Brunswick, ME – Constance Jones has been appointed the new Senior Director of Development for Mid Coast–Parkview Health. In this role, she will lead the planning, implementation, and administration of all Development activities, including fundraising appeals, endowment campaigns, gift planning, grateful patient donations, and donor appreciation events.

A dedicated Mid Coast–Parkview Health Board Member and volunteer, Constance brings a unique understanding of the organization to her new position.


Mid Coast Palliative Care Program Expands

Brunswick, Maine – This fall, Mid Coast–Parkview Health welcomed the return of David Dumont, MD, FACEP, FAAFP. Dr. Dumont recently completed a palliative care fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.  He formerly served as a hospitalist and as the Senior Medical Director of Quality and Acute Care at Mid Coast–Parkview Health.
