Mid Coast–Parkview Health Celebrates Nurses Week and Hospital Week

BRUNSWICK, ME — Each year, Nurses Week (May 6 – 12) and Hospital Week (May 9 – 15) are opportunities to highlight hospitals, health systems, and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting the needs of their community members. Attention can be focused on the diverse ways America's 3.8 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals.

This year, Mid Coast–Parkview Health recognizes more than 600 staff nurses for their unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality patient care, and the entire 2,000 person staff for their contributions to the community.

Because Mid Coast Hospital is a community hospital with a patient-centered healthcare system, their nurses embody these values every day. “Nurses Week is just one way we shine a spotlight on the outstanding nursing team that provides our communities with the compassionate, high-quality care that is expected at Mid Coast–Parkview Health,” said Kristin Anthony, RNC, MSN, NEA-BC, Vice President for Nursing and Patient Care Services at Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “It is due to their awareness and commitment that Mid Coast is nationally known for excellence in patient care.”

Mid Coast Hospital is the only community hospital in Maine to have achieved national recognition as a Magnet Hospital, an honor received by only eight percent of hospitals nationwide for exceptional nursing and patient care. Mid Coast Hospital was first designated in 2009 and redesignated in 2014 and 2019. Magnet hospitals are known to have better patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and nursing satisfaction, as well as lower nursing staff turnover.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at Mid Coast–Parkview Health has adapted to the many changes the organization has gone through. From restructuring departments and workloads to taking on new duties and observing the latest safety guidelines, the care team members have proved their readiness and commitment to caring for the health of the community.

“The nurses and staff of Mid Coast are incredibly deserving of this recognition, and we are tremendously grateful for the passion and dedication they bring to the work they do each day,” said Lois Skillings, RN, President of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “Understanding the toll that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken, this year, we are especially appreciative for all that they have done.”
