Registration is open for the 2016 Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk

March 1, 2016

Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is pleased to announce registration is open for its largest fundraising event of the year: The Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk.  This year’s events will take place on May 1 starting at the Franklin County Court House on Main Street in Farmington, and on May 15 starting at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

Beginning in 2009 with 100 participants, raising just over $2,000, the Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk has steadily grown.  Last year’s event boasted nearly 900 participants who raised $80,000 to support patient care and family support services provided at the Hospice House in Auburn.

The Hospice House 5k & Remembrance Walk volunteer planning committees have made some exciting changes and additions to this year’s events. Each location will have a Remembrance Garden. All participants are invited to create a memory board to honor their loved one and place it in the garden while at the event. There is no fee or fundraising minimum to participate.

Selection of the best team t-shirt award will be determined by online voting. Voting will be open for one week following each event. Awards will be presented for the best t-shirt design in each location.  In addition to Auburns kid’s fun run, Farmington has added a 1 mile kid’s fun run with area mascots including Mt. Blue Cougar, Franklin Savings Bank Benjamin Bear and Andy the Ambulance cheering participants along. Finally, both locations will give a nod to AHCH’s 50th Anniversary with music from the 60’s to today being played to entertain participants.

This year’s event will continue to offer recognition opportunities for teams and individuals reaching specific fundraising levels. This includes team names on the 5K plaque, engraved walkway paver and a family bench. All recognition is located at the Hospice House.  Runners are not forgotten. Awards will be presented to top runners in 5 year age groups.

The Memory Wreath will be continued at this year’s event. Each participant will be able to tie a ribbon with their loved ones name on the ribbon. The wreath will travel to both event locations and following the final event in Auburn will be on display at the Hospice House.
