Newly installed luggage racks that convert to bike racks make it possible to roll bikes on board from any Downeaster station, then secure and store them on the train.  Previously, bikes had to be stored in a special car, restricting access to only a few stations.  Now, standard full-size bicycles may be carried on at any Downeaster station and stored in the designated racks, as long as the front wheel is removed.  Bicycle space is limited to four per train, and a specific bike reservation is required in advance of travel. Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic Extends Hours, Offers Virtual Appointments

September 3, 2020
The Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic has expanded its hours and is now open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. Opening the clinic an hour earlier will allow patients to schedule early morning visits before work and school, as well as be seen by a provider after traditional business hours. “As we plan for the return to school, we know that many families will have questions about symptoms of COVID-19,” said Tari Advani, MD, Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic Medical Director. “Expanding hours at the Walk-In Clinic will assist patients and families by providing extra time to meet with a provider to assess any health concerns or questions. Our providers can recommend the best course of treatment and refer to testing as needed.” Located in downtown Brunswick, the Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic offers a more affordable alternative to an emergency room visit or appointment at a private urgent care facility. The clinic is perfect for when a patient cannot get an appointment to see their physician or does not have a primary care provider. Patients can get expert and urgent care for minor medical problems such as cuts, sprains, coughs and infections, as well as onsite diagnostic services, including X-rays. The Walk-In Clinic is also co-located with a laboratory service center and integrated with all Mid Coast Medical Group practices, allowing for unified record keeping for patients.  Read more...

SMMC Releases Social Distancing Survey Results

June 25, 2020
Social distancing and the choice of wearing a mask in public has become a hotly debated and divisive topic recently.  As the State of Maine looks to re-open our economy, one key aspect not being addressed is consumer confidence.  Through reading social media posts, conversations with friends and discussions with colleagues, the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber discovered this was an issue for the Maine consumer.  If we want to return to any sense of normalcy we need to address concerns the consumers may have so they can feel confident to patronize Maine businesses.  Anecdotally, we knew there was uneasiness from some consumers, but we had no way to gauge how much uneasiness there was, and if it was wide spread or regional.    On the afternoon of June 4, 2020 we released a 20-question online survey created through Survey Planet, to gather consumer attitudes on social distancing in Maine businesses.  Partner agencies statewide also sent the survey out to their contact lists.  Our hope was to get 500 responses in a week to make it a statistically significant survey.  When the survey closed June 12, we had 2,939 responses.   Read more...
