Acting Up: HCA to Offer Political Theater with Renowned Professor
HCA: A School for Social Change, Entrepreneurship and the Environment
Brunswick, Maine — “Theater should be relevant to the community,” says Lee Rose, who joins Harpswell Coastal Academy (HCA) this fall as the director of its new political theater program. Course offerings will range from acting to stagecraft & design to public speaking, but political theater — or theater as a vehicle for social change — will be the focus.

Mid Coast Hospital Providers Train Tufts Medical Students
Brunswick, ME – On June 1, two medical students begin a nine-month clinical rotation at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Maine Track students Katherine Brady and James McCullum are gaining valuable hands-on training under the supervision of Mid Coast providers as part of the Tufts University School of Medicine – Maine Medical Center Program (TUSM-MMC) Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) program.

Free Tobacco Policy Support Available to Local BusinessesBRUNSWICK, ME – As a local State of Maine Tobacco Prevention Partner, Mid Coast Hospital is offering free tobacco policy technical assistance and incentives to local businesses. Any business in Sagadahoc County, Brunswick, or Harpswell looking to create or refresh its tobacco policy can work with Mid Coast Hospital’s Community Health Promotion team to receive free support and signage. Businesses that take part in this effort by June 30 will receive a $50 gift card to an online or local retailer.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Employees Donate More Than $10,000 Collected in Q1 2021 to Nonprofit Organizations
Bar Harbor, Maine – Bar Harbor Bank & Trust recently presented donations totaling more than $10,000 to six Northern New England nonprofit organizations from its employee-driven charitable giving program, Casual for A Cause. The recipients of the contributions collected in Q1 2021 are: Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, Coastal Washington County Institute of Technology, Girls Inc., Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, NewStory Center, and Safeline Inc.

Bath Housing and the Sagadahoc Chapter of Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) are pleased to announce the 23rd annual Bath Housing planting day will take place on Saturday, May 29th.
MOFGA volunteers will work with Bath Housing residents to prep and plant vegetable beds across the city at the Anchorage, Moorings and Seacliff properties, with an eye on making the freshest produce possible accessible to all.

Curbside Hours to Continue in the Mornings
BRUNSWICK, ME – With all of the library staff to be vaccinated by mid May, the Curtis Library Board of Directors voted at their April meeting to reinstate indoor browsing hours beginning Monday, May 17.
New hours will be:
Monday through Friday 9:30 am to Noon – Curbside Service Only
Monday through Friday Noon to 6:00 pm – Indoor Service Only
Saturday 9:30 am to 1:00 pm – Indoor Service Only
Sundays – Closed through Labor Day

Mid Coast Hospital Receives Top Patient Safety Grade
BRUNSWICK, ME—The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit that aims to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, has announced its Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and has awarded Mid Coast Hospital an ‘A’, the highest designation that Leapfrog offers.
To determine its letter grades every six months, Leapfrog uses publicly available data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as well as its own surveys, to evaluate how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harm to patients in their care. Achieving an ‘A’ grade is a challenge, as is maintaining one. The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.
