Over the last several years, The Real Estate Book has become a staple in the Portland Southern Maine footprint, including the Sebago Lakes area, connecting realtors and home buyers through our unique monthly distribution of our fantastic FREE magazine to real estate office as well as popular locations such as supermarkets, coffee shops, and convenience stores to name a few.        After taking the helm as Publisher recently, I quickly recognized that there was a region of our great state that was underserved and needed to be included in our coverage area. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Employees Donate Nearly $12,000 to Seven Nonprofit Organizations Bar Harbor, Maine – Bar Harbor Bank & Trust recently presented donations totaling nearly $12,000 to seven Northern New England nonprofit organizations from its employee-driven charitable giving program, Casual for a Cause. The recipients of the contributions collected in Q4 2020 are: BROC Community Action, Capstone Community Action, Friends in Action, Island Connections, Knox County Homeless Coalition, Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice, and Tedford Housing. “These nonprofit organizations provide much-needed services to our communities, and the employees of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust are honored to be able to assist them with their efforts,” said Jack Frost, VP Director of Community Giving at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. Health Career Scholarships Available for Local Students Applications for Herb Paris Health Career Scholarships will be accepted January 15 – April 15, 2021 Brunswick, ME – Applications are now open for the Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship, available to high school students and non-traditional students in our local area who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. The scholarship program sponsors Midcoast area students attending college, technical colleges, or other technical training. Each year the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary awards approximately $40,000 in Herb Paris Health Career Scholarships to deserving students. The Scholarship Committee receives more than 30 applications each year, and through a very selective screening process, selects which students to support.   Read more...

People's United Community Foundation Awards More Than $182,000 in Grants to Non-Profits in Maine

PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS MORE THAN $182,000 IN GRANTS TO NONPROFITS IN MAINE PORTLAND, ME – People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, N.A., announced the awards of $182,500 in grants to 32 nonprofit organizations throughout Maine during 2020.   This year’s grant donations were focused on COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts. Organizations working with communities that are disproportionately impacted by the pandemic were provided with flexible funding to use however it was needed. Mid Coast Hospital Administers First Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine to Front-Line Caregivers Brunswick, Maine – Mid Coast Hospital administered the first vaccinations for COVID-19 to its front-line caregivers today. At 7:30 a.m. Paul LaPrad, MD, became the first care team member at Mid Coast Hospital to receive the vaccine. LaPrad has been a pulmonologist in the community for 25 years, and has been caring for COVID-19 patients at Mid Coast Hospital since March. Read more...

Amtrak Downeaster Celebrates 19 Years Connecting the Midcoast to Boston

This week marks the 19th Anniversary of Amtrak Downeaster service between Portland, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts. Since December 15, 2001, more than 65,000 Downeaster trains have operated, transporting more than 7.62 million passengers the equivalent of nearly 658 million passenger miles.  The Downeaster transports a diverse cross-section of riders who travel for a variety of purposes including commuter, college students, senior citizens, school kids on educational trips, sports fans, beach goers and tourists and more. Brunswick, ME – Mid Coast Hospital has announced the launch of its 2020 Annual Giving Campaign. This year’s campaign will be led by two well-regarded community members, Eleanor “Smokey” Morrell and Elizabeth “Betsy” Niven, whose nearly 50 years of service and leadership in the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary have inspired many. These exceptional women have served on various boards and committees within the hospital, as well as having staffed the information desk, café, and gift shop.
